The answer unfortunately is it depends. Small repairs may be as little as 12 dollars for a tube of caulk if you’re able to do it yourself. Other repairs my be repointing, putting on a new chase cover or even a full rebuild. Those prices can very between 500 to 10,000 plus. Its important to look after it early to prevent the problem growing worse.

You absolutely can! Especially when it comes to small repairs DIYers can save a lot of money. When it comes to larger repairs homeowners can still fix much of it themselves although this isn’t for everybody. Full rebuilds, crowns etc can be very daunting tasks but experinced DIYer’s can certainly give it a go if they wish. Make sure to follow all codes and NFPA 211 standards.     

Often water leaking into the home can cause home owners to start looking for the cause. If its near your chimney that is a good place to start. If you notice signs of water in your firebox, around the ceiling or walls by your chimney get it inspected. If you notice cracks, chips, missing mortar, broken brick or a leaning chimney we recommend you get it inspected. 

Much like cost the answer is it depends. some repairs can be accomplished in a matter of hours, larger projects like rebuilds can take days to even weeks.

When you speak to the company knowledge and willingness to explain are also a good sign. Make sure the tech craftsman or salesperson is willing to explain why you need a repair not just sell you on getting one.

Some repairs can be put off although we don’t recommend it. Putting of repairs often leads to larger repairs or rebuilds. Worse than that depending on what is damaged it may not be safe to use the fireplace or chimney until it is repaired. If you notice damage we recommend you have it inspected prior to use.
